Preparing For University – How This Free Coursera Course Can Improve Your Learning

Over the past three years, I have struggled with quantitative modules at university which is ironic since Accounting and Finance at LSE, so complex maths to some extent has been inescapable. This has led to me trying various studying techniques over the years which I’ll be sharing on the blog later.

I stumbled on Learning How To Learn on Coursera recently and wanted to share the details with you all, in hope that someone finds the content beneficial.  Learning How To Learn is a free course on Coursera taught by Dr. Barbara Oakley, (Professor of Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Oakland University) and Dr. Terrence Sejnowski, (Francis Crick Professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies) which gives you access to the learning techniques used by experts in art, music, literature, math, science, sports, and many other disciplines.

Personally, I was familiar with quite a bit of the content on the course, but that’s because I have tried a lot of things over the past three years as mentioned earlier, however it was still very useful for me to learn new concepts especially in relation to illusions of learning and test taking.

The course is divided into a series of short videos, with tests and quizzes to assess your understanding hence it’s not time-consuming. I found it worthwhile and I would recommend for you to check it out on https://www.coursera.org/learn/learning-how-to-learn# . If you download the mobile app, you can watch the videos anywhere.

Wishing you all the best of luck!
