Book Review: Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna

Blurb

Full of wit and delicious observations, Mrs Funnybones captures the life of the modern Indian woman – a woman who organises dinner each evening after having been at work all day, who runs her own life but has to listen to her mummyji, who worries about her weight and the state of the country. Based on Twinkle Khanna’s superhit column, Mrs Funnybones marks the debut of one of our funniest, most original voices.

The Review

I really needed a light read recently and this was perfect! It’s a laugh out loud book and definitely lives up to its title. It’s been a long time since I’ve found myself slowing down to read a book to fully immerse myself into the reading experience. There’s an ease to Twinkle’s writing style that carries you along effortlessly in this comical biography. The narrated anecdotes cover a wide range of topics, from the mundane to serious issues like gender inequality and mental health, this was definitely a refreshing read!

Key Reflection

Women are superheroes! (Not that you didn’t already know that). I finished reading the book with a sense of appreciation for all the different roles that women juggle.

Top Three Quotes

“We teach our children to study hard, to strive to succeed, but do we teach them that it’s okay to fail? That life is about accepting yourself? That there is no stigma in seeking help?

The driven, passionate ones give their best on ordinary days and that is why they are extraordinary.

Life is just like flying a kite. Sometimes you have to leave it loose, sometimes you have to hold on tight, sometimes your kite will fly effortlessly, sometimes you will not be able to control it, but even when you’re struggling to keep it afloat and the string is cutting into your fingers. Don’t let go. The wind will change in your favour once again.
