Ramadan 2016 Series | 3 Reasons why you should be excited about Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak everyone!

We’ll just ignore the fact that I am three days late with my message! The past few days have been hectic but I have been so excited to start the Ramadan 2016 series on the blog. Ramadan is a special month for Muslims all across the world for many reasons. It’s a month where the sense of brotherhood and sisterhood is evident in our communities and I love it! I can’t list all the reasons why Ramadan is special but below are my top 3.

1. Month of Mercy and Forgiveness

Ramadan is the ultimate month of mercy and forgiveness from Allah SWT. Allah loves for us to repent and turn back to him, so this a month that regardless of what state you think you are in religiously and spiritually, grab it with open arms and have hope in the mercy of Allah. During Ramadan the gates of Hell fire are closed and the gates of Paradise are open. This is an opportunity not to be missed! Every action has multiplied reward so increase in the actions that comes easily to you. For example you might be someone that finds being able to pray Nawafil salah easily, increase the amount! You might have a great memory, get started on memorising the Qur’an or may be you’re just someone that’s generous and loves to give so increase in these actions and strive to improve on areas that you know you’re deficient in. Continually pray for guidance and forgiveness with the certainty that Allah will grant it to you.

The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says, ‘O son of Adam, as long as you call on Me, I shall forgive you of what you have done, and think nothing of it. O son of Adam, even if your sins were to reach up to the clouds in the sky, and then you were to ask for My forgiveness, I would forgive you and think nothing of it. O son of Adam, even if you were to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you were to meet Me after death, not worshipping anything besides Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as the earth.’” [Tirmidhi]

The Prophet SAW also encouraged us to make the dua below.

Allahuma innaka ‘affuwwun tuhibul ‘afwa fa’fu anni

O Allah! You are the one who forgives greatly, loves forgiving, so forgive and pardon my sins.

2. Month of the Qur’an

Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed and what a blessing it is for us!

The month of Ramadan, that in which the Qur’an was sent down; a guidance for mankind, and clear signs of guidance and distinction (2:185)

What I truly love about the month is how we put effort into trying to connect with words of Allah. Engagement with the Qur’an this month should extend beyond just recitation, we should strive to read the English translation as well and choose an ayah to reflect upon everyday! The ayahs of the Qur’an are full of amazing insight and guidance for us. We should engage with the meaning of the Qur’an and put it to action. Feel that Khushoo in your Salah!

3. Laylatul Qadr

This is the night that everyone eagerly counts down to since the night of Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand nights! It is translated as the night of power and it is the night in which the Qur’an was revealed. Believers are encouraged to pray the entire night asking Allah SWT for his blessings and forgiveness. For people who have that special dua list this is the night to go that extra mile!

Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger said: Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven. [Bukhari and Muslim).

I pray that you’re all having a great Ramadan so far.

Love,
