I came across #MovementMonday on the Instagram page of Gina Rodriguez where she uses the hashtag to celebrate Latina women. I’ve wanted to do something similar but with the hashtag #chills so clearly #MovementMonday wins!
We are starting #MovementMonday at Muslimgirljournal with three amazing Muslim women who have made the headlines this week in their respective fields.
Camden appointed its first female Mayor of Bangladeshi heritage this week. Since it is Mental Health Awareness Week, it is important to mention that during her time in office, Councillor Shah will be raising money for Anna Freud Centre. Anna Freud centre transforms the lives of young people experiencing mental health problems in Camden through direct clinical services to families. They also provide support to the most vulnerable families through work within homeless hostels, youth centres and schools in the borough.
Fatima Samba Diouf Samoura
Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura from Senegal was recently appointed as FIFA Secretary General. In a field dominated by men this is an incredible feat. She is currently the UN’s Resident/ Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria.
Muhterem Aras was elected as Germany parliament’s first Muslim woman speaker this week. She is a Green Party politician who took the post in Baden-Wurttemberg from a populist anti-immigration party.
Representation matters and it is amazing to see these women in the positions that they are in.
